EPIPHANY IN LITOCHORO

Citizens in Litochoro celebrate Epiphany by reviving the custom of Sichna. Sichna are large banner, bearing cross symbols and multicolor flags, representative of the churches of the two older parishes of the village Agios Nikolaos and Agios Dimitrios.

Sichna are prepared by locals at the churches Agios Georgios and Panagia on Epiphany Eve, so that on the next day they can be carried in Procession through the villages of Agios Nikolaos and Agios Dimitrios.
After the service, the locals head towards “Lakkos” region, near Enipeus River for the annual Holy Cross diving. Then the swimmer who has caught the cross takes it to every house of the village, in order for the villagers to kiss and receive the traditional tip.
Olympus View provides for the attendance of the custom in full view since the gathering of Sichna takes place right in front of Olympus View.
